Fulham Football Club is an English football club located in Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The club was founded in 1879 and are officially the oldest professional football team in London.

Fulham’s home stadium is Craven Cottage, perfectly located along the banks of the River Thames in Fulham, where they have been playing football since 1896. It really is a wonderful ground to visit and enjoy the walk along the Thames.

The club was born in 1879 when a team was created for local boys at Fulham St Andrew’s Church. Although cricket initially was the focus, seven years later the team won their first silverware, the West London Amateur Cup, beating St Matthew's 2-1 in the Final. The club soon shortened their name to Fulham Football Club in January 1889 and dropped the original nickname of the Saints.

In 1995, the club were in financial dire straits before being rescued by Mohamed Al Fayed, who saved the club from the threat of bankruptcy and led a revival in the clubs on-field fortunes. In just a few years, the team climbed from Division 3 to the Premier League.

Fulham joined the Premier League for the first time in 2001 and in doing so they returned to the top flight of English football after a 33 year absence. However, despite reaching two major finals - the FA Cup final in 1975 and the Europa League final in 2010 - Fulham have not won a major honour to date.

It was under the management of Roy Hodgson in 2008-2009 that Fulham enjoyed their most successful season in the Premier League. They finished seventh which gave them European football the following season, during which Fulham enjoyed a stunning journey to the final of the first ever UEFA Europa League – unfortunately losing to a late extra-time winner by Atletico Madrid.

Fulham and Chelsea’s home grounds are separated by only 1.4 miles, meaning a healthy rivalry has naturally developed between the two clubs. Although the club can also consider fellow West London clubs QPR and Brentford as rivals too.

The nearest London Underground station is Putney Bridge, which is on the District Line. From there Craven Cottage is a pleasant 15 minute walk.

Fulham have become somewhat of a ‘yo-yo club’ over recent seasons, as they have struggled to establish themselves in the top division but after impressing many in 2023-2023 with their exciting attacking football, maybe we’re about to enjoy a new era for Fulham FC!
